More of the same in Bush's November 30 speech at Anapolis

George Bush thinks the American people are complete idiots. How else can you explain the ridiculous statments he made yesterday at Anapolis? Someone said it took him 27 seconds to bring up 9/11, and the transcript shows he tried to tie Iraq to 9/11. No matter how many times he repeats it... it doesn't make it true. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

The alternative explanation is that Bush is criminally ill-informed by choice or the deceipt and incompetence of his staff and his executive agencies, or so psychotic and delusional that he's no longer touching reality with even one finger.

I'll leave the detailed dissections of Bush's fairy tales to others, but here's a few comments on the yarn Bush spun.

"To all who wear the uniform, I make you this pledge: America will not run in the face of car bombers and assassins so long as I am your commander-in-chief." (emphasis added)

That can be arranged. If the elections in 2006 turn out all the corrupt Republicans, and the Democrats can pick up enough seats in the Congress, maybe we'll be able to investigate those claims of "we didn't mislead anyone", "we don't torture", ad naseum. Impeachment is a valid option for crimes.

Bush's cocky phrase reminds me of an event from my school days. A classmate went away for a weekend. When he got back his pain-in-the-neck girlfriend asked "did you miss me?". He realized no, in fact, he didn't and promptly dumped her. Bush may have finally set the strategy for getting out of Iraq: impeachment.

I know that, for our men and women in uniform, this debate can be unsettling. When you're risking your life to accomplish a mission, the last thing you want to hear is that mission being questioned in our nation's capital.

This was an uncalled for cheap shot. He can't take it away by lip servicing open discussion. It's a blatant attempt to accuse (with deniability) people of "unsettling troops" by questioning his policies.

How does Bush know what the last thing is he wants people want to hear? Maybe some troops are relieved that some Americans don't want to send anymore military people to their deaths in a war zone with no armor, too few troops, and no plan.
